CCI lists the Hollow Point Mini Mag as a varmint cartridge, but all the rabbits, squirrels, and other small game animals that have been sent to the frying pan with this load might argue with the classification. The CCI Mini Mag is available in both a standard 40 grain round nose and a 36 grain hollow point, but the hollow point is perhaps best for small game hunting.
I test fired the hollow point CCI Mini Mag for this review in a semi-automatic Mossberg Plinkster, an old Revelation bolt action, and a H&R revolver. The revolver has always shown a preference for high velocity ammunition and the revolver shot the CCI Mini Mags into about an inch or so at 25 yards. At 50 yards both the Mossberg and Revelation shot the CCI Mini Mag well. The Revelation did a bit better averaging just under an inch and the Mossberg averaged about an inch. Not spectacular accuracy but sufficient for hunting and plinking.
